ABOUT THOMAS

practical experience rooted in ward 3

Thomas Psarianos is a highly experienced public servant, policy professional, and lifelong Ward 3 resident running to bring practical experience, strong local roots, and serious leadership to Markham City Council.

Born and raised in Ward 3, Thomas attended Unionville Public School and has seen Markham grow from a small town into one of Canada’s most dynamic and diverse cities. His connection to the community is deeply personal. It is where he grew up, where he learned the value of service, and where he has spent more than a decade giving back as an umpire with the Markham District Baseball Association...

priorities

Focused on the priorities that matter in ward 3

SAFER STREETS AND NEIGHBOURHOODS
  • Addressing the break-ins and auto thefts affecting residents across Markham.

  • Strengthening neighbourhood crime-prevention initiatives and communication with York Regional Police.

  • Tackling speeding, dangerous driving, and recurring road-safety concerns.

  • Identifying problem intersections and locations where stronger enforcement or road-safety improvements are needed.

Fiscal responsibility
  • Looking for efficiencies before asking taxpayers for more.

  • Examining opportunities to coordinate or share services where doing so can reduce costs without reducing service quality.

  • Demanding transparency around major expenditures and projects.

  • Prioritizing essential infrastructure and frontline municipal services.

  • Ensuring residents can understand how their tax dollars are being spent.

Traffic & Transit
  • Identifying Ward 3's worst congestion points and prioritizing practical improvements.

  • Exploring technologies such as adaptive and synchronized traffic signals to move traffic more efficiently.

  • Reviewing No Right Turn on Red restrictions at key intersections where residents have raised concerns and determining whether the current approach is actually improving safety and traffic flow.

  • Holding York Region accountable for necessary improvements to major regional roads, including the widening of 16th Avenue.

  • Working with York Region Transit to improve reliable transit connections for Ward 3 residents.

  • Advocating directly to the Province and Metrolinx for the restoration of weekend GO train service on the Stouffville Line and for more frequent service to arrive sooner.

  • Ensuring development-related infrastructure needs are properly identified and that growth contributes appropriately toward the infrastructure required to support it.

stronger local services and community spaces
  • Reviewing winter-maintenance practices, including the problem of snow windrows left across residential driveways after plowing.

  • Exploring opportunities to deliver winter services more efficiently and at better value for taxpayers.

  • Protecting and improving our parks, recreational facilities, trails, and community spaces.

  • Addressing increased coyote activity, particularly in areas where residents have raised concerns such as Quantztown Park, Carlton Park, and around St. Matthew Catholic Elementary School.

  • Ensuring services and community facilities continue to meet the needs of families, seniors, young people, and a growing population.

RESPONSIBLE GROWTH AND BETTER PLANNING
  • Infrastructure planning that keeps pace with new development rather than catching up years later.

  • Careful consideration of the cumulative impact of development on traffic and existing neighbourhoods.

  • Ensuring applicable development charges and other growth-related revenues are used effectively to support the infrastructure growth requires.

  • Protecting the character and quality of life of established communities.

  • Stronger and earlier resident consultation on major decisions that will affect their neighbourhoods.
